Unit Descriptor

This unit specifies the skills and knowledge required to operate a non-slewing mobile crane safely in accordance with all relevant legislative requirements. Competence in this unit, does not in itself result in a HRWL licence to operate this plant.

A Slewing mobile crane means a mobile crane incorporating a boom or jib that can be slewed, but does not include:

  • a front-end loader or
  • a backhoe or
  • an excavator or
  • other earth moving equipment, when configured for crane operation.

A person operating a slewing mobile crane with a capacity of more than 20 tonnes but less than 60 tonnes is required to hold a C6 High Risk Work Licence (HRWL). A C6 HRW Licence allows a person to operate cranes that would otherwise require the following HRW Licence classes: CN, CV and C2.

This unit requires a person operating a non-slewing mobile crane to:

  • plan for the work/task
  • prepare for the work/task
  • perform work/task
  • pack up

Pre-requisites and Licensing / Regulatory Information
